Strasbourg-Kehl, a historic border city between Germany and France along the Rhine River, faces a climate crisis despite its EU capital status. Geographical barriers hinder air circulation, and prevailing winds carry pollution. Urbanization has led to an urban heat island effect. Proposed solutions include living walls, green roofs, parks, and a tourist route. The project aims to offer an appealing tourist route and a series of narrative landscape spaces that combat pollution, enhance tourism, and promote cultural harmony, utilizing the Rhine's unifying potential.
Strasbourg-Kehl, a historic border city of Germany and France on the Rhine River, serves as the second capital of the EU. Despite its environmental governance, it faces a severe climate crisis due to air pollution and the urban heat island effect.
Strasbourg's rapid urbanisation has led to the urban heat island effect. This project proposes strategies for living walls, green roofs, pocket parks, tiny forests, and public spaces, which become windbreaks linked by a tourist route.
The project emphasises a broader concept of peace, the harmonious coexistence with nature and the integration of diverse cultures, uniting societies and nations in a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and cultural harmony.
