Ketscher Rheininsel’s most notable feature is its abundant water resources, independent wildlife ecology, and endangered wild grapevines. In this project, a rainwater storage system was designed to collect, filter and store rainwater in the basins. Clean rainwater can further distribute to several leisure infrastructures, such as swimming pools and the skating rink. By showing the process of rainwater storage and filtration, people can personally participate in the operation of filtered rainwater.
Ketscher Rheininsel is an island formed by the old Rhine channel and the existing Rhine River, and is adjacent to the town of Ketsch on the east side. The slim water bay attached to the island is also often seen as a kayaking area.
Rainwater enters the filter pool from the reservoir, which is suitable for planting lotus and other deep-water plants. The strip-shaped filter pools are planted with filter plants such as eelgrass and arrowhead.
The water will naturally flow to the shallow retention pond during the rainy season. Before the water enters the basins, it will pass through three ponds planted with filter plants.
This is a vine field that children can run through and play in. Different structures have functions, such as framing views, creating a joyful and playful place for family and friends to meet.
