Year 2

The right bank of the Rhine River, once called the "wrong side," houses factories and Turkish immigrant communities facing issues like soil pollution, limited organic food access, and integration challenges into German society. In Cologne-Mülheim's industrial area, this project seeks to rejuvenate a century-old abandoned site into a sustainable Turkish community vegetable garden.

The project begins with biotechnological soil remediation and adopts traditional Turkish Bostans cultivation methods for sustainable vegetable farming. Land is equitably distributed among disadvantaged local Turkish residents. On-site activities include Turkish festivals, cuisine, markets, courses, and industrial heritage exhibitions. In winter, mushroom cultivation enriches the soil for the next year's planting.

This endeavour aims to transform the industrial site into a more comfortable, healthy environment for Turkish immigrants. It provides employment opportunities and organic food access for disadvantaged residents while respecting their cultural identity and fostering integration into German society on their terms.

The design encompasses several phases, including soil remediation, vegetable cultivation project, and subsequent enrichment of the soil for the following year.
