Break the Boundaries

Project details

Programme
Design Studio Design Studio 8
Year 1

Located at the boundary between Canary Warf and Poplar the project occupies and stitches itself between a railway maintenance dock that currently dissects these two contrasting neighbourhoods.

The project serves to break this state, creating an ecological corridor that links travel routes, communities and connects residents on both sides of the site. This will transform the existing rail facilities and brownfield site, enhancing the area’s biodiversity and linking the local residents together through a new public landscape.

This collage aims to show the different groups of people and their interactions with the site.

Overall Anaylsis

This collage aims to show the different groups of people and their interactions with the site.

This drawing tracks the relationship between dog walkers' feeling and their dogs' behaviour in relation to the soil porosity rate. This follows the routine of the dog walkers that visit the site and their behaviours within this landscape.

An exploration of terrain cut and fill, rail accessory transformation and noise insulation strategies on the rail depot site.

Strategy

An exploration of terrain cut and fill, rail accessory transformation and noise insulation strategies on the rail depot site.

Using the existing train lines as a starting point, the site was divided obliquely into two halves. The block to the northeast serves the private residential areas and the area to the southwest is open to the public.

Design Iteration and Sketches

The aim of this project will be to transform the existing rail facilities to create event venues and add commercial elements while bringing biodiversity to the site to aid the brownfield restoration, hoping to attract nearby residents.
