This project researches and investigates the traditional streets of China's Yuecheng district to uncover the new challenges that traditional Chinese streets face in the process of modernisation, namely commercialisation and changes in street demographics. Based on these investigations, the project proposes strategies for the reuse of neglected spaces at different scales to address the inequalities brought about by these dramatic changes.
This type of street is the only one predominantly inhabited by residents among commercialised traditional streets. The daily lives of street residents are passively influenced by the commercialisation brought about by tourism.
